Taro in West Africa: Status, Challenges, and Opportunities

Taro is an ancient nutritional and medicinal crop woven into the fabric of socio-economic life those living in tropics sub-tropics. However, West Africa (WA), which has been a major producer for several decades, experiencing significant decline production as result taro leaf blight (TLB), disease caused by Phytophthora colocasiae Raciborski. A lack research on WA means that available innovative technologies have not fully utilized to provide solutions inherent challenges enhance status crop. Improvement through plant breeding remains most economically environmentally sustainable increasing productivity WA. With this review, we insights importance WA, evaluate date, suggest how address gaps order promote sustainability region.
